In previous versions of Midjourney, the U buttons were used to upscale graphics. The current model generates photos at 1024 × 1024 pixel resolution right away. The ‘U’ buttons now allow you to detach your chosen image from the grid, making it easier to download and providing access to extra editing and generating options.

The 🔄 button re-runs a job. In this situation, it would rerun the original prompt, resulting in a fresh grid of photos.

Image Variation (V1, V2, V3, V4)

The V buttons are used to make variations on the selected image. Each button creates a new image grid while retaining the overall style and composition of the selected image.

Midjourney, Inc., a San Francisco-based independent research lab, developed and hosts the generative artificial intelligence program and service. Midjourney, like OpenAI’s DALL-E and Stability AI’s Stable Diffusion, generates visuals using natural language descriptions known as prompts. It is one of the emerging AI technologies.

The tool is now in open beta, which began on July 12, 2022. Leap Motion co-founder David Holz leads the Midjourney team. Holz reported to The Register in August 2022 that the company was already profitable. Midjourney users use Discord bot commands to produce artwork.

Midjourney Use

Midjourney can be accessed via a Discord bot, either through their own Discord server, by directly messaging the bot, or by inviting the bot to a third-party server. To generate photos, users provide the /imagine command and a prompt; the bot then returns a series of four images, which users can upscale.

• /prefer variability – Toggle between High and Low variations when using the V1 V2 V3 and
  V4 buttons underneath an image grid.

• /relax – Switch to Relax mode.
• /settings – View and adjust the Midjourney Bot’s settings
• /stealth – For Pro Plan Subscribers: switch to Stealth Mode
• /shorten – Submit a long prompt and receive suggestions on how to make it more concise.
• /show – Use an images Job ID to regenerate the Job within Discord.
• /subscribe – Generate a personal link for a user’s account page.
• /tune – Generate a Style Tuner based on your prompt. The Style Tuner lets you make your
  own Midjourney style and customize the look of your Jobs.
• /turbo – Switch to Turbo mode.
